Radiology: An Introduction

Radiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the study of obtaining and interpreting medical images. In other words, a radiologist is the person (or doctor) who uses imaging technologies to arrive at the right diagnosis of an underlying condition. Some obvious examples of imaging techniques includes X-rays, Ultrasound, nuclear medicine, CT (Computer Tomography) scan, MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), Mammography and so on. A radiologist may specialize in a specific branch of his choice like Nuclear Radiology, Cardiovascular Radiology, Breast Imaging, Pediatric Radiology, Emergency Radiology etc. A radiologist carefully compares the medical images with other findings and test results before treating a patient. He may use radiation or an image guided surgery as a treatment mode.
